The city of Calgary has provided a updated calendar for the reintroduction of fluorine with the city’s drinking water – and there was another delay.
In an update written Thursday morning, the city said that the system should now be operational for some time “later in the second quarter of this year.”
Fluoride was removed from the city’s drinking water in 2011 and the necessary infrastructure was discovered and withdrawn from the city’s water treatment factories.

This target date was changed several times – the last was in March 2025 – but Thursday’s announcement means that it could take up to three more months.
City officials said the equipment had been installed, but was still tested and inspected to make sure it is working properly.
The initial cost of the project was estimated at $ 10.1 million, but the last estimate is almost triple – $ 28.1 million.
The annual operating cost is expected to be around $ 1 million.
