In order to improve access and innovation in health and health care in North West Florida, Florida State University has announced its intention to build an active care hospital in Panama City Beach under the name of the FSU health.
Pending the approval of the state of Florida, the plan opens the way to the construction of a advanced medical establishment which will serve the residents of the counties of Bay and Walton. The financing of the project’s obligations, estimated at around $ 414 million, was approved Wednesday by the Florida Board of Governors, the board of directors of 17 members responsible for the operation and coordination of the 12 public universities of the State. The FSU board of directors of 13 members approved the financing of bonds during a meeting earlier during the day.
The university will join an operator, who should be the approval of Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH) by the city of Tallahassee, to rent and exploit the new hospital. This arrangement will guarantee long -term quality performance that align with the growing needs of the community and innovative best practices.
“The new hospital testifies to our unwavering commitment to provide exceptional services and quality care to the community,” said FSU president Richard McCullough. “We create a cutting edge installation that will meet the needs of the community, support local doctors and prioritize an exceptional patient experience, improve the overall health and well-being of our residents.”
The president and chief executive officer of TMH, Mark O’Bryant, stressed the importance of the partnership, declaring: “This collaboration with the FSU represents a step forward fascinating in the expansion of high quality health care services for the Panama City beach and the surrounding region.
The FSU received approximately 16.5 acres of land given by St. Joe Company for the hospital site at 1002 North Arnold Road at the intersection of Highway 79 and the senior promenade by Philip Griffitts. The new hospital will be located in the same medical district and adjacent to the new medical office building which opened in July 2024.
The first phase of the hospital can accommodate up to 180 beds and will offer a wide range of health services, including emergency medicine, general surgery and diagnostic imagery. In addition, the agreement describes the development of specialized service lines such as heart care, neurology and orthopedics.
“Access to quality health care is essential for the well-being of all residents in northwestern Florida,” said Jorge Gonzalez, president, chief executive and president of St. Joe Company. “The FSU Health responding to a critical need for more tandem health care options with education and research for students is a transformer for the region.”
A key element of the plan is the academic clinical collaboration agreement, which will governed future clinical research and medical training programs in the hospital. This partnership will create opportunities for medical education initiatives graduated from the FSU and will improve the development of essential talents for health professionals in the region.
“I am delighted to learn that the FSU, in collaboration with the Tallahassee Memorial hospital and the St. Joe Company, announced its intention to extend access to health care in northwestern Florida with a new hospital in Panama City Beach,” said American representative Neal Dunn, who represents Bay and 15 other counties in the 2nd district of Florida. “FSU and Tallahassee Memorial have proven itself to improve the results of health care in the communities they serve. This new installation represents the beginning of another exceptional chapter of collaboration between these organizations which will benefit the whole community of the county of Bay. ”
The project is the next phase of the long -standing commitment of the FSU to improve health care in the north of Florida.
The notable steps include the launch of FSU Health in 2022 and the construction of an academic health center on the Memorial Health Campus in Tallahassee, which should open its doors in 2026.
“We are proud to be part of the future of this region, and we are impatient to open the doors to a new era of health care that will benefit families and communities for future generations,” said McCullough.
The construction of the New Panama City Beach Hospital should start soon, with a targeted opening date in 2028.
