Five hospitals in the LCMC health system – East Jefferson General Hospital, Lakeside Hospital, Lakeview Hospital, Touro and West Jefferson Medical Center – won the Louisiana Birth Ready or Birth Ready + Designation, recognition awarded by the Department of Health of Louisiana and Louisiane Perinatal Quality (LAPQC). The designation honors hospitals that have implemented evidence to improve the results of maternal and child health.
Launched in 2021, the Birth Ready program assesses hospitals in five key areas, including clinical preparation, patient partnership and the implementation of policies to combat severe maternal morbidity. “LCMC Health undertakes to provide the highest quality and best patient care practices for all our patients,” said Toni Flowers, Ph.D., corporate social responsibility in LCMC Health. “The five birth hospitals have demonstrated this commitment by obtaining and supporting the births ready for birth and the birth of designations + designations.
This achievement is part of a broader effort on the level of the state to improve the results of maternal health. “Louisiana’s birth hospitals are working with diligence to provide patient care and centered on the patient for the families of Louisiana,” said Veronica Gillispie-Bell, MD, medical director of LAPQC.
