Family Fit Lifestyle Month
This is your call to wellness with University of Illinois Extension.
Do you do 150 minutes of physical activity every week? This recommendation may seem impossible during the winter months. So here are some helpful tips to maximize your time during Family Fit month in January.
· Bundle up and go for a walk outside! Grab your winter coat, hat and gloves and get some fresh air, even if it’s just a short, brisk walk around the block. You could even help your children or grandchildren participate in a winter scavenger hunt in the neighborhood or at a nearby park.
· If it’s too dangerous to go outside, try something indoors. Walk around your house, go up and down the stairs, or do activities in your living room. There are plenty of free home workouts available online and just a click away. Whether you’re looking for a 10-minute energizing activity or a 30-minute walk around the house, there’s something for everyone.
· Find a fitness center near you with an indoor pool and recumbent bikes. These activities are perfect for people with arthritis or who have recently had knee replacement surgery. Consider a temporary gym membership for 3-6 months and see if you qualify for discounts, such as for seniors, teachers, or first responders.
This week, set a goal of 30 minutes of movement, 5 days a week and move at YOUR pace for continued success.
