The event offers affordable local sports options this summer
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD), in partnership with Lincoln Community Learning Centers (CLCS), invites families to the sports registration event for young people on Thursday, April 3. The free event, from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. at the Auld Pavilion Recreation Center, 1650 Memorial Drive, is designed to connect families with sports opportunities for young people in ALD this summer.
“We know that participation in sports not only improves physical form, but also reduces the risk of chronic diseases and consumption of substances, improves mental well-being and promotes a feeling of stronger community for young people,” said Angelina Stovall-Amos, supervisor of public health education in LLCHD. “This event is an exciting opportunity to connect families with resources that support these long -term positive results.”
The event is based on the success of the spring sports registration event in January, where 28 families representing more than 50 children explored local sports options. By expanding access to sports programs, the event aims to reduce obstacles to physical activity and promote healthier lifestyles.
Families participating in the event will have the opportunity to:
- Discover local sports leagues and leisure programs for young people aged 3 to 16 and all skill levels before registration times or delay costs.
- Connect with organizations offering affordable options, financial assistance or scholarship opportunities for sports for young people.
- Receive interpretation and translation help when you talk to sports providers and fill in registration forms, with interpreters available for several languages.
- Receive free and slightly used sports facilities provided by the YMCA of Lincoln’s sport equipment driving (until stocks last). Volunteers will be available to help families select appropriate equipment.
