A German documentary accused Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of hypocrisy while enjoying an “elitist” lifestyle in the UNITED STATES. The show focuses on the couple, detailing how their high-profile visits to poverty-stricken countries like Nigeria and Colombia sit uneasily with Meghan’s love of expensive designer clothes.
The Lost Prince was created by German channel ZDF and promises to immerse viewers in the lives of Harry and Meghan in Montecito, California, following their decision to leave the royal family.
Harry’s future role within the monarchy will also be examined closely in the documentary. In promotional materials for the film, ZDF stated: “Even in his self-imposed exile in Montecito, California, he remains a figure of public interest. His commitment to charitable organizations – such as Invictus Games which he founded for wounded servicemen – still puts him in the spotlight.”
Award-winning filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald spoke with the couple’s neighbors for the documentary as well as veterans who knew Prince Harry and a number of journalists and royal experts.
Former soldier Ben McBean, who shared a flight home from Afghanistan with Harry, criticized the prince for his revelations about his family in his explosive memoir Spare and in his Netflix to show. McBean, who lost his left arm and had his right leg amputated above the knee after being seriously injured by a landmine explosion in Afghanistan in 2008, did not hold back when appeared in the documentary, reports the Daily mail.
The veteran soldier says, “I just thought, as he was complaining about his family and he was saying something about his brother pushing him or something, I was like, ‘Bro, forget it “. You and your brother had a few punches… but family family, you know. If a friend of mine fell out with his partner and started posting things on social media and saying my ex is this and that, I would have told him to shut up too. “.
The documentary also points the finger at Harry and Meghan for inevitably trading in their former royal roles in seeking to make money to support their lifestyle.
A journalist Russell Myers said on the show: “If you go to places like Nigeria, like Colombia, which have huge socio-economic problems, some of the poorest communities in the world in those countries, and you show up with dozens of clothes thousands of euros worth of designer clothes – it really doesn’t send the right message.”
The Sussexes left the royal family in 2020 in what is now called “Megxit” by many royal watchers. At the time, several German media outlets criticized the couple’s decision to step down. But by 2023, when Germany hosted Harry’s Invictus Games, the country had warmed to the couple.
The documentary arrives just a week before Netflix Harry Polo documentary will be released, which will explore the royal’s favorite sport. The five-part docuseries will officially debut on December 10. The highly anticipated show follows polo players “on and off the field” as they compete in the US Open Polo Championships, and features clips from Harry and Meghan themselves.
