Erling Haaland has signaled his intention to spend the vast majority of his professional football career at Manchester City by extending his contract by nine and a half years.
The Norway international was already tied down until June 2027 under his previous terms, but his new improved contract will last just under 10 years and keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.
Haaland is still only 24 years old, but would be 34 when this new contract expires. More importantly for the reigning English champion, all release clauses from his former terms have been removed. The deal, which eclipses the nine-year extension Cole Palmer signed at Chelsea in August, is not only the longest record in Premier League history, but also one of the most lucrative. Sources told James Benge of CBS Sports that the deal could be worth around $610,000 (£500,000) per week.
“I’m going to stay a long time,” Haaland said. “Now I can fully concentrate on my improvement because I’m going to be here for a very long time. Fully concentrate on my performance and on my improvement to give all the fans what they want. It went very well. quickly. I feel like I signed a moment ago. It’s going very quickly and that’s a good thing, it means I appreciate it.
“In the two and a half years as a City player, I won a lot of trophies, I played a lot of good football, I had so many good moments with the whole club and with the supporters. I remember more rainy parade (“
Speculation regularly linked Haaland to Real Madrid, but the Scandinavian goal machine instead opted to strengthen his links with the Citizens.
Guardiola has committed his future to City until 2027 and Haaland is now very likely to outlast his boss at Manchester having already scored 111 goals in just 126 games.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg hitman arrived in 2022 and has already won two Premier League titles as well as single crowns in the UCL, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
This development from Haaland is also a major boost for City at a time when they await the decision on their legal battle with the EPL over alleged financial rule violations.
That verdict is expected this year and perhaps before the end of the current season, with the Manchester giants currently working hard to secure reinforcements in the January transfer window.
Brazilian defender Vitor Reis is expected to join the group from Palmeiras, as well as Uzbek youngster Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.
