The use of the entertainment industry rebounded after Hollywood strikes in 2023, but only part of the job losses was recovered, according to the latest report from Otis on creative economy.
The film, television and sound added nearly 15,000 jobs in the past year, although only 26% of the jobs lost during strikes have been recovered, “highlighting the impact of an industry in transition,” said the study.
The overall entertainment use remains 25% below its peak of 2022 according to the report, which also notes that the number of days of shooting in the county of Los Angeles fell by 42% in 2024 compared to 2022 in the middle of the contraction of the industry and a slowdown in post-pic television.
“The film, television and the sound sector seem to settle in a new normal characterized by lower employment and production levels compared to its pre-puncture pic,” said the study.
Last year Otis college study pointed out a 17% drop in the employment of the entertainment industry from April to October 2023 following WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, aggravated by the current television contraction.
