Hastings, Neb. (KSNB) – The Hastings municipal council discusses the creation of an entertainment district to help improve the experience of the community event in the city center.
Currently, community events require a fence around the designated areas, bracelets and other restrictions to take place. With the entertainment district, however, the fence would be replaced by panels or another barrier form to keep the event in its designated area.
The director of development services, Chad Bunger, said that the idea came from a change in the laws of state alcohol, which allow communities to establish entertainment districts and common areas where the ‘Alcohol can be served and sold and take advantage of this opportunity will help organizers and companies to make more attractive events.
“We are trying to take advantage of it, give us another opportunity to support local businesses,” said Bunger. “With this, it also allows a community to set its own standards for safety and obstacles and this kind of thing would be for areas where you consume beer, wine and alcohol.”
Bunger also said that an important part of the entertainment district is security in order to verify identity documents and help keep events within the laws.
“Today, if you do this kind of event, you must have a private security business,” said Bunger. “The laws of the state dictate the number of security professionals in relation to the number of people who attend the event. We will continue with this effort. Companies with this entertainment district license, they must provide special cups that designate their business and designate the entertainment district. »»
He also said that the entertainment district would open the door to the sidewalk dining room, family entertainment and other types of events that occur in common areas.
In the future, Bunger said there were still discussions to have with the municipal council and the State, but the designation could bring many positive points to companies and the community if it were adopted.
“If this is approved locally, it will establish more appropriate standards which always cover the safety needs, always cover the laws of the state and ensure that people do not become uncontrollable, but can change what it looks like and Feel in the event community, ”said Bunger.
The proposal for the entertainment district will be discussed further at a meeting of the subsequent municipal council.
