Noting his commitment to service and justice within its community, the Triad Business Journal has recognized Hon. Carrie Vickery l’-09 in her Annual list of “exceptional women”.
Vickery, who has now served his third term as judge of the Northern Carolina District Court for Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities, was appointed among the 25 influential triads women in the newspaper’s special edition.
In 2016, Vickery became the first former Elon Law to be elected or appointed judge at the district or superior court.
His community work and his service to civic and professional organizations such as the Association Bar and the Junior League led to the regional importance starting at the start of his career with the Holton law firm.
The Business Journal has cited these efforts among others, as well as volunteering in community agencies, in its selection of Vickery for the list. The journal also noted its certification of the NC State bar as a family law specialist – a distinction which allows it to train lawyers and judges on a state scale – among its professional achievements. She was elected for the first time as a judge of the district court in the county of Forsyth in 2016 and was re -elected in 2020 and 2024.
Vickery is actively committed to Elon Law, supervising the next generation of law professionals. More recently, she was a judge for the 15th Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition, organized by Elon Law in October 2024. The annual event brings together teams of law faculties across the country to argue complex constitutional issues.
