EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso nurses join national protest against artificial intelligence.

Armed with signs, nurses from Las Palmas Medical Center and Providence Hospitals Memorial Campus took to the streets of El Paso on Thursday to protest AI technology, which they say is dispersing nurses.

“Currently, hospitals are intentionally short of nurses to maximize profits, but this does not allow us to provide the highest quality care and is potentially dangerous for patients,” said Juan Anchondo, a registered nurse at the hospital’s medical-surgical unit. Las Palmas and representative of the head nurses there. “We come together today to collectively say, “No way! Invest in more nurses, invest in patient care. » »

This Borderland protest is part of a larger nationwide protest bringing together thousands of registered nurses and members of the National Nurses United (NNOC/NNU).

“Patient advocacy is at the heart of what we do as nurses,” said Nancy Hagans, registered nurse and NNU president. “That’s why we demand safe staffing and protections against untested technologies like AI. We see the harm these cost-cutting programs cause our patients every day.”

According to protesters, a new analysis by NNU, using the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, shows that across the United States, more than 1 million registered nurses are choosing not to not work because of dangerous working conditions in the hospital sector.
