An 81 -year -old Edmonton woman is expressed after paying a chlorine filter that never worked.
Beverly Duncan says that more than seven years ago, a door seller at the door convinced him to rent a chlorine filter.
“He didn’t tell me what he was going to do. He certainly didn’t tell me what to watch for this machine after putting it,” said Duncan, who has lived in his house for almost 30 years.
The filter costs around $ 75 a month. It is supposed to clean the water and make it drunk. Duncan also pays $ 100 a month for a rental furnace.
Duncan says she became even more upset after trying to cancel and received a heavy invoice.
Duncan says that a Home Comfort reliance technician visited his house at least once a year to check the rental furnace. However, this was not the case for his other product.
“After checking the furnace, a few weeks later, I thought,” Why have they never checked my chlorine filter? “”

Duncan then asked Reliance to send someone home for a service call.
She said that a technician came to watch him in January.
“The technician went down, then he returned, he had not been there for a very long time. He went up quickly on the stairs, speaking when he arrived,” he said: “It does not work and it never worked since the first day because he has a missing part”, “said Duncan.
Duncan says she paid more than $ 8,000 for something that never worked. For a few months after the technician’s visit, she still paid for these costs.
She says that when she contacted reliance for the cancellation of the plan, it was not as simple. “I should pay more than $ 4,000,” she said.
Reliance Home Comfort told Global News that it took these concerns seriously.
“We are aware of the situation and our team had active discussions with the customer to resolve the issue,” said the company.
“We can confirm that on June 1, the customer was offered a free cancellation of the chlorine filter and a considerably reduced redemption for the furnace at $ 100.”
The company also proposed to reimburse part of the total invoice.
For Duncan, she hopes that by sharing what has happened, she can help someone else avoid a similar problem.
“I am furious and I feel like I have benefited,” she said.
