Softwood Lumber, a national transport corridor, affordable housing and an acceleration of major projects were among the subjects of a “productive” meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, according to David Eby.
The couple met on Monday in Victoria, a few days after the American trade department announced their intention of more double American tasks on Canadian wood of tender wood at 34.5%.
Eby said the conversation had mentioned the use of more mass wood in British Columbia to build housing in response.

“At a time when Canadian forest exports face an escalation in an ongoing trade war, we are welcoming an opportunity to meet the growing national and international demand for value -added wood,” Eby said in a statement.
“The renewed assault of the American president against our forest sector needs the same team Canada response as manufacturing jobs and the automotive industry in Ontario and Quebec.
Eby said British Columbia was fully behind the “Team Canada” approach and that the “expectations” in the province are that “the other provinces will also support us”.
He added that, whatever the result of the federal elections, the province needs a government in Ottawa ready to help fight the bottlenecks of transport and improve the training of qualified professions.

Carney, who was a campaign swing in Victoria, has not yet commented on the meeting.
He told journalists before the meeting that it was not his first time to speak with Eby flexible wood and Canada’s response to the wider commercial dispute with the United States.

He says, “We are going to fight, protect and build.”
Asked on the American level at a previous press conference in the Victoria region, Carney told journalists “these prices are completely unjustified”.
He says that he recognizes the importance of industry that supports tens of thousands of workers and that the federal government intensifies on their behalf.

“This is another unjustified rate. You can expect us to fight this.”
Carney said there was an opportunity to play British Columbia forces in modular housing and mass wood while the federal government seeks to accelerate the construction of houses.
Carney underlined the recent commitment of its campaign of its liberals to implement a national housing strategy in order to build half a million houses per year, to double the current rate and declared that support for Canadian wood was part of this effort.
“We have this ambition to build in this country, to use our resources.”
BC Lumber Trade Council has released a statement urging the US trade department to cancel its preliminary decision, saying that higher samples would injure workers on both sides of the border and increase wood prices for Americans.
The chairman of the council, Kurt Niquidet, says that British Columbia does not subsidize its wood industry and that American functions are “unjustified and harmful”.

Rather, he says that the British Columbia system is based on market principles, with wood sold by open and competitive auctions.
“The affirmations that the British Columbia system offers an unjust advantage is simply not supported by the facts. Trade continues to use erroneous and misleading methodologies, which causes higher rates, ”said the press release.
The new federal democrats also published a declaration by several candidates from the island of Vancouver, where many people and communities depend on the industry.
“The forest industry takes a hit.
“What we need right now is to build hospitals, bridges and houses – and do it using Canadian wood and steel.”
