DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Alt Creative is a Duluth business that supports Duluth painters, crafters and other makers by giving them a place to display and sell their products.

Shoppers will find second-hand crochet items, paintings, jewelry, home decor and even antiques, all contributed by local artisans, artists and designers.

What sets this space apart from others is that artists don’t have to pay for their place at Alt Creative, but 30% of their profits are donated to the store. Many antique malls ask for monthly cash payments, while Alt Creative asks for lower communication fees and those selling their art try to volunteer a few hours at the store.

Henry Kneiszel is one of around fifty artists who exhibit their works and take the time to manage the store. They are grateful for the doors Alt Creative opens for artists of all mediums.

“It’s very helpful to have a place that is really invested in the artist and the artists are reinvested in this place,” Kneiszel said. They also added that it’s nice to know that there is a store in town that will always support artists as they continue to achieve their dreams.

Melissa Weisser is the owner of Alt Creative and says it’s nice to have a whole community of people involved with the store to ensure it will be around for years to come.

“It’s worked really well for us, I feel like it’s a way to keep our art affordable and accessible to everyone while still getting money back to the artists,” Weisser said.

She worked with many community members to make this happen and open her doors in 2021. Everyone understood that small artists needed a permanent place to sell their items and go to work.

Each artist can stay in the store as long as they want and change rooms and creative spaces as often as they want.

Weisser said you can find anything in their store and they will always be a place for any artist, crafter or maker to sell their pieces.

If you are interested in selling at Alt Creative, Click here to visit their website. Weisser said to send an email and she will get back as soon as possible with next steps.
