Galveston, Texas – dozens of people have been dismissed at County of Galveston The health district as officials says that monetary sources from the COVVI-19 pandemic, which enabled them to increase the levels of the staff has exhausted.
Local health authorities in the Galveston County Health District, Dr. Philip Keizer said 48 people were dismissed on Friday. About half of these 48 worked in the clinic and the others in the department. The number represents approximately 10% of the health district workforce, which had 340 people. A hiring gel has also been implemented.
Keizer said that because the money that arrived during the COVVI-19 pandemic is exhausted, they come back to the levels of the staff they had precovid. Keizer told Kprc 2 that they had kept additional staff in the hope that the same funding amount would continue, but that did not happen.
He said that layoffs will have no interruption on treatment or services and that they will keep the same services and hours as before.
Keizer said that the cuts carried out were based on how they can do the same job more effectively to respect the budget.
