British officials in Liverpool Let’s say that more than two dozen people, including four children, are in hospital with injuries after a vehicle has taken a crowd of football fans celebrating the city’s premier league championship on Monday evening.
The driver, identified as a 53 -year -old British white man from the Liverpool region, was arrested on the scene, police said.
“It was a joyful day in Liverpool, with hundreds of thousands of people who border the streets to celebrate,” said Merseyside police chief. Jenny Sims said at a press conference at the end of the evening.
She said investigators believe that the incident was isolated and is not treated as terrorism.
Twenty people were treated for minor injuries on the spot, including children, while 27 additional patients were transported to hospital, officials said.
Dave Kitchin, head of the North West Ambulance Service, said that he thought that an adult and a child had suffered “serious injuries”.
A paramedical ambulance of the cyclist with the ambulance service which was on the scene for the festivities was part of the injured, added Kitchin.
“It is indeed a terrible incident, and we understand that people will be deeply upset,” he said. “We all at the North West Ambulance Service shares with you the frustration that this wonderful day ended like this, and we hope that those who were injured are quickly recovered.”

Nick Searle, the chief of the firefighters of the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, said that the first speakers were to raise the vehicle to save four people trapped below, including a child.
Police and city officials urged the public not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding the incident and refrain from sharing online “painful content”.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer thanked the police In a post on X.
“Liverpool’s scenes are appalling-my thoughts are with all the injured or affected. I want to thank the police and the emergency services for their quick and continuous response to this shocking incident,” he wrote.
“I stayed aware of the developments and asked him to give the police the space he needs to investigate.”
The incident occurred while thousands of people aligned the city streets to celebrate Liverpool’s victory in the recent Premier League, which had seen a title for the last time in 2020 but could not celebrate due to the Pandémic Restrictions COVID-19.
Before 2020, the title of the league came for the last time in the city in 1990.
This time, fans of scarf and agitation braved the wet time to line the streets and climb traffic lights for a view of the players of Liverpool, who were at the top of two buses carrying the words “again”.
The procession of several hours – surrounded by a strong police presence – has crawled along a 16 -kilometer route and through a sea of red and rain smoke. Fireworks have exploded from the royal liver building in the heart of the city.
Police said they first received information about the collision around 6 p.m., when the festivities were starting to end.
The team in a brief statement said that their thoughts and prayers were with people affected. The Premier League published a similar statement expressing a shock in the face of “appalling events in Liverpool”.
The collision also came while King Charles III and Queen Camilla landed in Canada for their visit to the country.
