In the last days of the Biden administration, the Ministry of Energy rushed to finalize the assault of new regulations on a massive range of daily consumer products such as water heaters, dishwashers and ceiling fans. One of these regulations, finalized in the last hours of the Biden administration, would force the mandate New “energy conservation standards” for commercial refrigeration equipment, which includes refrigerators and commercial freezers.

Under the hold of creating more “energy efficient” equipment, these manufacturers of unnecessary and expensive standards, small businesses and American consumers. Consequently, these regulations have serious food security risks and increase costs for small businesses and consumers.

Although the Ministry of Energy is authorized to define Energy efficiency standards For commercial equipment, the law explicitly requires that the new regulations are technologically achievable and economically justified. This requirement guarantees that the government cannot implement new regulations which impose an undue requirement for our economy without any real advantage.

The last -minute energy conservation standards of the Biden administration do not fully meet these reasonable requirements.

Rule Biden requires an unrealizable burden for manufacturers, which forces them to create a technologically impractical product at significant costs. At this point, manufacturers warn that complying with these regulations would require an impractical and costly overhaul of their equipment.

In addition, the hypotheses of the Ministry of Energy concerning this rule do not reflect the conditions of the real world. For example, the rule does not take into account the frequency to which an animated restaurant opens the doors of its refrigerators and freezers during the hours of visit. Consequently, depending on the new standards, the interior temperature of a device may exceed the storage conditions for safe food. Obviously, the rule is not only not only technologically impractical, but it also does not achieve the main objective of refrigeration equipment: keeping food safe to consume.

In addition, according to the own projections of the Ministry of Energy, these standards will lead to an important economic burden, ultimately of small businesses and consumers. Rule Biden would considerably increase the costs of commercial refrigeration equipment because manufacturers are forced to rethink the technology of already expensive equipment. As always, higher manufacturing costs will first reach small businesses, forcing them to absorb spending before inevitably transmitting it to consumers – who already have trouble with higher life costs after the last four years under Joe Biden.

The result is far from being “economically justified”. It is time to completely repeal these unnecessary energy standards on commercial equipment.

In November, the American people voted to restore common sense and the government limited to Washington, and that is exactly what the Republicans deliver. During his first day of mandate, President Trump signed a executive decree Organize an examination of the Biden apparatus regulations, to ensure that they do not impose industrial expenses.

In addition to the White House, the Congress works to curb excessive standards of the Biden administration. Fortunately, the house adopted my resolution. It is essential that Congress acts quickly to guarantee the outright repeal of this rule and close the book on costly and unnecessary energy efficiency standards of Biden administration.

Manufacturers, small businesses and the American people can now be assured that their federal government will not try to regulate certain devices out of existence or to increase the cost of living. I will remain determined to repeal heavy government regulations and defend legislation to reduce the cost of living for workers, both in my district and across the country.
