The subsidy discounts can lead many graduate students to continue their studies abroad, putting future remedies and scientific discoveries in Jeopardy, said a professor of the University of Maryland.

The subsidy discounts can lead many graduate students to continue their studies abroad, putting future remedies and scientific discoveries in Jeopardy, said a professor of the University of Maryland.

Anne Simon, professor whose study grant Disease killing citrus fruits across the country was interrupted, some of the elderly people in the colleges they teach had their acceptance of higher education canceled.

Many do not know what to do next, she said, and some may consider looking at programs abroad, “and they will not come back. It is devastating for science. »»

The Ministry of Effectiveness of the Government, a president of the Commission, Donald Trump, created during his second term responsible for reducing federal spending, directed changes in the federal workforce which were also carried out with breaks or cancellations for subsidies and programs for which they pay.

Fund research subsidies of graduate students, said Simon, so when there is a break or a cancellation linked to the financing of research: “In particular in the medical fields, we are not going to train students of the future, who will be people working in biotechnology companies, working in other sectors, university teachers. And at the moment, we are literally stopping the training of these students. »»

Consequently, Simon said that people “are looking abroad at the moment” and that there is no research in progress to fill the positions of teachers.

Students from around the world frequent American colleges and universities in the hope of advancing research and unlocking new discoveries, but Simon said that there may not be funding for these roles, so “now these students will not come, and instead, it will be exactly the opposite”.

The cuts, said Simon, are “devastating for higher education” because the higher education programs
“Can only take 25% of the students we take normally.”

A postdoctoral researcher with whom she works, originally from India, was offered a job at the USDA, said Simon. His wife was also offered, and they bought a house, eager to start in their new roles.

“They were delighted and then they were dismissed. … It is almost impossible for these people to find a job, because there are so many people who have been released, “she said.

“We are losing this incredible brain leak at the moment, because if we can’t find jobs here in the United States, people will go abroad and they will not come back,” added Simon.
