Delta Air Lines underwent a “significant drop” of Canada’s travel reserve during its first quarter and envisages reductions in flight capacity in this country, a high -level executive announced on Wednesday.
“In Canada, we saw a significant drop in reservations. In Mexico, it is a kind of mixed bag.
“So we sail in these waters and I think we will examine Canada and Mexico as places where we want to reduce our capacity levels as we progress,” added Hallenstein, offering no other details.
Hallenstein made these remarks to analysts of airlines at a conference call after the company based in Atlanta published its latest quarterly financial results. The airline remains very profitable but has suspended its financial forecasts for the rest of the year, citing the uncertainty triggered by the global prices and the trade wars of American president Donald Trump.
Delta offers Canadians the service of several Canadian cities, including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec and Halifax. So far, we do not know where the carrier intends to make cuts. Delta Canadian flights connect to its hubs in Atlanta, Minneapolis – St. Paul and Seattle.
A Delta spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comments.
But Canadians have deliberately reduced cross -border trips by air and soil since the beginning of 2025 after Trump threatened to annex the country by “economic force” and make Canada its 51st state.
Trump also exasperated Canadians by imposing unilateral prices in several sectors, despite the trade agreements, the triggering of layoffs and closings. The Canadians responded by canceling work trips and holidays, while considering destinations and alternative airlines.

Delta CEO, Ed Bastian said that the economic impact and uncertainty caused by tariff wars and icy relations with Canada have struck one of the largest American airlines with financial turbulence.
Bastian told another analyst in the air transport industry at the conference call that all companies did “what they can to make sure they protect their future” during what he described as “a period of maximum or potentially maximum uncertainty”.
“And Delta does this, as we have said, whether it is the capacity to reduce capacity or find other ways to save money and protect our margins.”
Delta is not alone. The Canadian flagship carrier Air Canada also reduces its flight capacity in the United States from Vancouver and other cities due to the decrease in American demand, the aviation specialty website Simple flight reports.
Cups include Vancouver flights at Washington International Airport Dulles (IAD), at Intercontinental Airport in Houston George Bush (IAH) and at Miami International Airport (MIA).
The drop in demand for American travel by Canadians has also harmed other Canadian airlines, with Westjet suspension service in Seattle And Las Vegas of Kelowna International Airport.
Flair Airlines has also reduced flights linked to the United States to the low-cost carrier, canceling its Toronto itinerary in Nashville, while adding flights to Canadian cities like Saint John, NB, the service begins earlier than expected, spokesperson Kim Bowie said.
“We deploy our fleet to best serve on demand, which has been more strongly domestic,” added Bowie.
Quebec carrier Air Transat has also reduced its capacity to 10% For flights to three cities in Florida since the start of the new year.
Delta can postpone Jet Airbus deliveries to prices
The Bastian de Delta also suggested that his airline was in discussion with Airbus on the fact of potentially reporting new airplane deliveries for this year’s balance, while tariff uncertainty takes place.
“They are an excellent partner. We will do our best to see what we need to do to minimize the prices. But the only thing you should know that we are very clear is that we will not pay prices on the airplane deliveries that we take,” said Bastian.
“These times are quite uncertain. And if you start to put a gradual cost of 20% in addition to an airplane, it becomes very difficult to operate these mathematics. So we were clear with Airbus on this subject, and we will work and see what is happening from it,” added Bastian.
