DECATUR, AlabamaWAF) – Many people gathered at the Bank Street Grill on Sunday to distribute hot meals.
Melissa Staten said giving back was important to her and that’s why she got into the restaurant business.
“I don’t like seeing people hungry. I guess that’s why I got into the restaurant business a long time ago. I just felt in my heart that I wanted to help them,” Melissa Staten said.
Melissa and her husband Timothy Staten own Bank Street Grill together. Timothy tells us that at one point they needed that extra support that they now provide to others.
“We’ve been struggling, you know we’ve had some tough times, you know everyone’s going through something, it’s just a blessing for us to be able to help someone else, you know what I mean ” said Timothy Staten.
Along with these meals, they handed out care packages filled with canned goods, crackers, blankets, socks and more.
Nicholas Perkins, Steve Perkins’ brother, came to the Bank Street Grill today to help pass out the treats.
“Not everyone is as lucky as others. When you’ve been blessed, it’s not up to you to keep it, it’s up to you to pass on those blessings,” Perkins said.
Timothy and Melissa said Sunday’s event made them feel good and they plan to continue giving back.
