“While previous studies have linked coffee to individual health results, our study is the first to assess the impact of coffee in several areas of aging in three decades,” said Sara Mahdavi, scientific clinician, approved nutritionist dietitian and post-doctoral at Harvard Th Chan School of Public Health.
Mahdavi presented the results of the study, which has not yet been evaluated or published, during the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), which was held in Orlando from May 31 to June 3, according to an ASN version published by Eurekalert.

What does the study found?
“The results suggest that coffee coffee – not tea or decafa – can uniquely support aging trajectories that preserve both mental and physical function,” said Mahdavi, who is also auxiliary professor at the University of Toronto, in a press release.
The study included 47,513 women and used food and health data that had been collected since 1984, according to the press release.
“Our study has several key forces,” said Mahdavi. “In addition to the large size of the sample and 30 years of follow -up, we have evaluated several different aspects of healthy longevity and aging as well as very complete information on nutritional and lifestyle habits that have been collected every four years after the initiation of the study.”
How do I drink coffee every day benefits women?
Of the nearly 50,000 women who started studying in 1984, 3,706 were considered “healthy age” in 2016, according to the press release, which noted that the criteria of being a “healthy Ager” included the following elements:
- Live at 70 or more
- Be free of 11 major chronic diseases
- Maintain a physical function
- Have good mental health
- Presenting no cognitive impairment
- Showing no memory complaints
How many caffeine do the participants drank participants?
Between the ages of 45 and 60 years, women judged “healthy agents” consume about 315 mg of caffeine every day, which is equivalent to around three small cups of coffee or a large and a half cup, according to the press release.
“More than 80% of this caffeine came from regular coffee consumption,” said the press release.
Soda consumption associated with a “lower probability of healthy aging”
While coffee coffee was associated with health benefits, another caffeine source was not.
The consumption of soda was associated with a lower probability of healthy aging, “strengthening that all sources of caffeine do not give advantages,” said release.
