Corewell first in Michigan to limit care to transgender minors

Corewell Health is the first state’s medical system to announce that it limits the care of the sexes for minor patients. It will no longer allow minors to seek such treatment to start new hormonal therapeutic patterns; Minor patients already receiving hormone therapy will be allowed to continue their treatments.

The moratorium comes following President Donald Trump‘s executive decree This threatens to remove federal funding from hospitals that provide such treatments to people under 19.

In a declaration provided to the free press, Corewell said: “For the moment, we are not starting new therapeutic patterns for minor patients looking for gender assertions. We do not perform surgery of surgery Gender assertion on minors.

Corewell consists of two divisions. Although the health system policy covers the entire Corewell system, affirmative gender care for minors have generally not been provided in Corewell East facilities, a spokesman for Corewell said.

Other state hospital systems have not commented if they changed the care they provide. The Detroit Medical Center did not respond to requests for comments. Henry Ford Health System is not either. The transgender population of the country is small: around 1.6 million people aged 13 and over identify as transgender, according to the Williams Institute of the UCLA, a research center focused on gender identity, sexual orientation and public policies.
