A theater has teamed up with a charity to launch a drama therapy program aimed at supporting young people’s mental health.
The free 12-week course, called M-Power, is designed by KidsAid for 12-16 year olds and will take place at Corby Cube in Northamptonshire.
Drama therapy is a form of psychotherapy that combines creative techniques such as drama, storytelling, movement, music and art to promote emotional well-being.
Rebecca Caswell-Fox, chief executive of KidsAid, said: “M-Power drama therapy will give young people the opportunity to participate in a program tailored to their needs and delivered in a safe, familiar space. »
Therapy is delivered by trained clinicians who use drama-based methods to help young people express and process their emotions in a safe and engaging way.
M-Power will provide group therapy for up to 10 young people, helping them develop skills and tools to cope with life’s challenges.
Karen Cudby, Core Youth Development Coordinator, said: “Young people have consistently told us how important it is to have access to effective mental health support in the spaces they already feel at home. ‘easy.
“M-Power Dramatherapy will do just that, offering a 12-week program tailored to their needs and delivered in our city center youth space.”
Due to the nature of the course, places will be allocated based on therapist assessments to ensure the program benefits those who need it most.
The program begins on February 26, with registrations of interest are now open.
