Corpus Christi, TX – While June marks the month of men’s health, Christus Health urges men to take care of their health by programming regular controls and preventive projections.
Health professionals say it is easy to neglect personal health in a rapidly evolving world, but the priority of well-being is crucial for a longer and healthier life.
According to centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the 13.2% of men aged 18 and over declare their health as just or poor. Among the main health problems for men are heart disease, cerebral vascular accidents, diabetes, depression, cancer and high blood pressure.
“Men often tend to think that they are in good health and feel good,” said Dr. Christopher Petrikas, a family medicine at Christus Health. “But preventive screenings can help catch abnormal things early. Men should obtain regular health checks at least once a year. ”
Regular screening provides men with the opportunity to discuss their family history and any existing health problem with their doctors. Cardiac diseases being the main cause of death in men, proactive measures are necessary to get problems early.
“Many factors can contribute to heart disease,” said Dr. Petrikas. “These include smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, family history of heart disease and high blood pressure.”
Projections should ideally start at the age of 18, with a particular accent so that men start the regular screening of colorectal cancer at 45.
“There are different methods of colorectal cancer screening,” said Dr. Petrikas. “The point to remember key is to be tested. Early detection considerably improves the results.”
