Chestermere RCMP say a youth has been charged with assaulting another youth after a video of the alleged attack was posted on social media.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening (December 18), police said the attack was believed to have taken place in an alleyway in Chestermere.
The RCMP said the video, which was widely shared on social media, is very disturbing to watch and would like to assure the public that enforcement action has been taken.
“We investigate a lot of things, but when you see the video of these offenses being committed, it’s shocking to see and horrific to watch,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.
Global News viewed the video, which shows a young man repeatedly hitting and kicking a young girl.
“A 14-year-old boy was ultimately charged with assault, causing bodily harm and uttering threats,” Savinkoff said.

“The individual who took the video himself was charged under the Chestermere Anti-Bullying Bylaw and there is a $500 fine under that bylaw for offenses committed there.”
RCMP say the 14-year-old accused of assault will appear in court on February 20, 2025.
Reacting to news of the charges and the video shared on social media, Chestermere Mayor Shannon Dean said “the video is very difficult to watch” and he had a message for the community.
“This is behavior that we do not tolerate in our community, and I am sad that this happened,” Dean said.
“I would just ask people to remember that we are talking about teenagers involved in this and that young person could see these comments that are being made and see these things. Let’s just be careful how we talk about it so we don’t re-traumatize.
