The Michigan High School Athletic Association since its creation in December 1924, sought to reflect the desires of its members – at that time, 754 high schools and more than 750 intermediate schools – and most of its history, carried out this mission by acting on the ideas and concerns of administrators, coaches and play officials.
With the start of the 2006-07 school year, another constituency began to provide its voice to the MHSAA decision-making process.
This fall, the first student advisory advice began its mandate, made up of eight juniors – four girls and four boys – with these first eight giving the tone to 144 students in total who have been used in the past 18 years.
The advisory council of students, in substance, is this voice of students who not only weighs on subjects concerning school sports which are debated among the member schools of MHSAA, but also talks about the advantages of school sports as ambassadors in their schools, leagues and through the state.
The bag meets six times during the school year, more once again for a 24 -hour leadership camp, and discusses matters linked to the fundamental MHSAA values and educational athletics – scholarship, sportiness, security and sensitive extent of sports programs, with student leadership also a common subject. The members of the bag then promote these values thanks to their aid in the annual summits of the Sports Spirit of the MHSAA, various leadership projects and publications and videos on social networks.
Over the years, the Student Advisory Council has written two versions of the booklet “MHSAA Captains 101” which has been delivered to each state school. The members were traits in two versions of the captains of the National Federation of the Federation of Secondary School Associations (NFHS), and the group advised changes to trophies and medals and equipment and equipment sold during final events.
The members of the bag also help medal ceremonies during the events of the MHSAA championship and undertake other projects throughout the school year; For example, the student advisory council coordinated and tried the competition for the MHSAA Battle Students section during its 10 years which ended in 2022, and this school year created the declaration below on the sporting spirit to be used during broadcasts and live events of the MHSAA.
