Arched forms proliferate throughout the interior designed by Neri&Hu design and research officecreating a particularly dramatic effect when stacked to the full height of the five-story atrium lobby. It is a prelude to the 2,500-seat Shanghai Grand Theater, a dizzying volume of curved forms and horseshoe balconies clad entirely in oak, which introduces a warm tone, both visually and acoustically. Other striking material choices include cladding the multi-purpose performance and exhibition space with blackened stainless steel, transforming it into a true “black box”, and glass block construction in the performance area. the adjacent escalator, which produces a contrasting ‘light box’ as arriving customers. experience like a crystalline tunnel.
