Prime minister Mark Carney go towards Rome Friday to assist Pope Leo’s inaugural mass.
The Prime Minister’s office said in a statement on Tuesday that Carney would be in Rome from May 16 to 19.
The ceremony, which marks the official start of the mandate of a pope, will take place on Sunday, May 18 at Place St. Peter’s.
The press release said it is a “long -standing tradition of the Catholic Church and a decisive moment in the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV”.

During his stay in Rome, Carney will meet other international leaders to discuss “the deepening of trade, trade and cultural ties,” said the PMO.

In his first words as a pontiff, Pope Leo underlined peace, dialogue and missionary evangelization.
