The Canadian authorities launched an expulsion procedure against an Iranian who, according to them, was a higher member of the Iranian government, Global News reported on Thursday.
According to the reportThe Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) asked for an expulsion hearing in Elham Zandi on January 7 under the regulations aimed at Iran’s high -ranking officials, quoting the country’s immigration and refugee council (IRB).
No date has yet been set for the procedure and the alleged role of Zandi within the Iranian government has not been disclosed, according to the report.
The CBSA told Global News that she could not discuss the question for reasons of confidentiality, while Zandi’s lawyer refused to comment.
Citing government files, the Canadian media reported that Zandi arrived in Canada for the first time as a tourist before requesting a work permit.
When immigration officials investigated its history, the report indicates that it continued the government for delays, requiring $ 10,000 in damages.
His case would also have drawn the attention of the Liberal MP Patrick Weiler’s office, who contacted immigration, refugees and Canada citizenship at least five times in his name.
In July of the yearCanadian Immigration Authorities have initiated the deportation procedure against five senior leaders of the presumed Iranian government residing in Canada.
ACBSA allegedly alleged that these people held management positions in the Iranian government and had asked the Immigration and Refugees (IRB) Council to lead audiences on these cases.
Before that in March 2014Canada Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) ordered the expulsion of Salman Samani, the Iranian Deputy Minister of the Interior during Hassan Rouhani’s mandate as president.
The court verdict was issued in accordance with the sanctions imposed on Iranian officials following the national demonstrations of 2022 in Iran, launched by the murder of Mahsa Jina Amini under the care of the so-called morality police.
Salmani was the second high -ranking Iranian official who was ordered to leave Canada. In February, Majid Iranmane, director general of the Iranian vice-president for science and technology, was also forced to leave.
Canada first prohibited members of the leaders of the Islamic Revolution Guard (IRGC) in October 2022.
“The appointment of a regime is a permanent decision. This means that more than 10,000 members of CRGC leaders, for example, will be unacceptable forever for Canada, “said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the time.
In June 2024, after the pressure of the members of the diaspora, Ottawa officially moved the CRGC as a terrorist organization, effectively prohibiting thousands of senior Iranian officials, including the best members of the IRGC, of the entrance in Canada.
