The cause is still under investigation, but “it seems that the fire started inside the house in the room,” said CFD spokesperson Carol Henke, adding: “It is not known if the house had smoke alarms that worked.”
“Given the morning, most people sleep. This is why smoke alarms are so incredibly important because even in this deep sleep, the strong sound will wake you up,” said Henke.

“When a fire sets in, you literally have a few minutes to go out safely before overcoming. The most dangerous part of any fire structure is smoke,” said Henke. “I went to fires where the fire went out and used all oxygen in the room and the room is filled with smoke – but you cannot say from the outside necessarily that there was even a fire there. Smoke is so dangerous and so fatal. “
CFD said that the most dangerous part of all fires is smoke and that it is unknown if the house had smoke alarms that worked.

The house is considered a complete loss, but fortunately, there does not seem to be damage to neighboring houses.
CFD asks anyone with photos or videos of the fire, in particular before the arrival of firefighters, to contact them in piofire@calgary.ca.
