Calgary fire investigators try to determine the cause of a house fire early in the morning in the Falconridge community who killed a man and sent a woman to the hospital with serious injuries.

The fire broke out around 4:20 a.m. in a one -stage house on Falwood place, said Calgary’s fire service (CFD).

When the firefighters arrived in a house fire early in the morning in Falconridge, they met smoke and visible flames from the building.

A man and two dogs were found outside the house, but the firefighters were informed that two other people were still inside.

“We were able to make a quick blow,” said CFD battalion chief Jordan Wiebe. “There were three occupants of the house – one was able to extract themselves, then two other occupants were found by our crews and brought out and transmitted to EMS.”

A woman was transported urgently to hospital in serious condition and a man was found in cardiac arrest. Despite the efforts of paramedical paramedics, he was declared dead on the scene.

Investigators ask anyone with photos or videos of a fire early in the morning in Falconridge to contact the Calgary fire service.

The cause is still under investigation, but “it seems that the fire started inside the house in the room,” said CFD spokesperson Carol Henke, adding: “It is not known if the house had smoke alarms that worked.”

“Given the morning, most people sleep. This is why smoke alarms are so incredibly important because even in this deep sleep, the strong sound will wake you up,” said Henke.

“When a fire sets in, you literally have a few minutes to go out safely before overcoming. The most dangerous part of any fire structure is smoke,” said Henke. “I went to fires where the fire went out and used all oxygen in the room and the room is filled with smoke – but you cannot say from the outside necessarily that there was even a fire there. Smoke is so dangerous and so fatal. “

CFD said that the most dangerous part of all fires is smoke and that it is unknown if the house had smoke alarms that worked.

Global News

The house is considered a complete loss, but fortunately, there does not seem to be damage to neighboring houses.

CFD asks anyone with photos or videos of the fire, in particular before the arrival of firefighters, to contact them in piofire@calgary.ca.
