Shreveport – The centenary football coach Byron Dawson was appointed nominated in 2025 for the best business professional of the year as part of the Opportunity Awards Minority Business, the big Shreveport room announced.
Dawson and the other nominees will be recognized during the annual dinner of minority business prices on June 26 at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino.
The centenary football program ended its Historical 4-6 season in 2024 in total and 4-4 in the game of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference while the sport returned to the campus for the first time in addition to half a century under the direction of the native of Shreveport Dawson.
Dawson is one of the most recognizable names in local football at any level. He set up an impressive career at the Lycée at the Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, where he was selected as American defensive MVP USA TODAY HIGH SHOOL ALL American for Louisiana, appointed MVP of Class 3A All-State and Defensive, and helped lead EVANGEL to a 15-0 record in 1997, three class. National n ° 17, among others. Dawson was also the champion of the back to back in the Purg shot of his junior and senior year.
Dawson graduated from the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he was a four -year letter on the LSU defensive line, recording 86 plated and four bags while playing for Nick Saban, Pete Jenkins, Will Muschamp, Karl Dunbar and Bo Davis. Dawson was part of the defense classified at the national level of LSU during the 2001 season, during which the Tigers upset the Tennessee to win the SEC championship, then defeated the Illinois in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
The gentlemen will open their season on September 6 against Westgate Christian University in Atkins Field and should play nine regular season games – five at home and four on the road. Centenary will face Millsaps College on September 13 in Jackson, Miss. And will return home to face the East Texas Baptist University on September 20. The gentlemen will have a week off on September 27, then open the conference open to Austin College on October 4 in Sherman, Texas.
The first home game of Centenary is October 11 against the Lutheran University of Texas, on October 18, the gentlemen are in Lyon College in Batesville, in Ark., And they close the month of October against the McMurry University for a conference competition on October 25. Centenary will face Hendrix College on November 1 in Conway, Ark. And will meet at home on November 8.
The SCAC will offer a new and exciting format to determine its league champion next season, the six schools (Austin College, Centenary, Hendrix, Lyon, McMurry and Tlu) will meet on November 15 in Little Rock, Ark. For the championship weekend held at War Memorial Stadium with an exciting day with three games – number 5 for the two seeds.
