Milwaukee – A Wauwatosa company has a difference – a free meal at a time. Delicious cocks, a black company belonging to women and bakery products, gives local educators thanks to a special program called #feedtheteachers.
For the owner Tomira White, this initiative is personal. Before becoming a business owner, she was a teacher herself. It includes the hard work and the dedication that educators devote every day, often without much recognition.
“As a former teacher, you realize that people are not doing much to celebrate teachers,” said White. “Teachers do a lot!”

This belief led him to create #feedtheteachers, a program focused on donations that offers warm and homemade meals to educators to show her appreciation.
When asked why she had chosen the teachers, White’s response was simple: they deserve it.
“I feel like they deserve it. They work very hard,” she said. “We hear people talking about young people and how difficult they can be. I know post-pandemic, it’s even more difficult because students now have a lot of different obstacles.”

For teachers like Kanika Burks, the gesture means everything. She teaches at the Dre Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy and recently received a free meal as part of the program.
“It’s great to be recognized, for someone to say:” I just want to make you positive praise for your hard work “,” said Burks.

She knows with first hand how demanding work can be.
“I think that educators often do not get much praise. They come and do their best. You are dealing with 27 different minds, and this can be difficult, but our teachers are always ready to take up the challenge.”

Now the team of Delicious Bites strives to extend the program, hoping to reach even more teachers with more free meals. The program to feed teachers is an effort funded by the community. Fernando de la Sancha, member of the team of Delicious Bites, encourages the community to get involved.

“#Feedtheteachers is the hashtag we have here,” said Sancha. “You click on this, and you can name a teacher or make a donation in the campaign. Tell us what it does for the community, and we hold their hands and make sure they get a free meal.”

Torira White hopes that the movement will continue to grow because, in his words: “They deserve to be celebrated.”
