BARRY, Ill. (WGEM) – A tri-state city is calling all aspiring entrepreneurs. Applications are open for an incentive program.
In Barry, city officials set aside money to help someone with a new business plan in place. City Administrator Jeff Hogge said it’s to help small business owners and bring more economic growth to the city.
The Barry Business Booster program has already helped several startups. The Pike County town now has a dog grooming salon, a flower shop and a pawn shop. Hogge said the idea was to help reduce startup costs by awarding this new business up to $10,000.
“(Puppy Pawlor) needed money for cages, equipment, things like that,” Hogge said.
Hogge said they will also provide free water, sewer and internet for the first year, along with other potential assistance as determined.
To qualify, the business idea must be new and have something that Barry does not already own (i.e. a law firm). The business must be located in Barry, but you do not need to be a resident.
Hogge said the deadline for this round is April 30. For details, contact Hogge at 217-335-2215.
