Cleveland Browns defensive winger Myles Garrett reached 100 career sacks during 24-6 Week 16 loss At Cincinnati Bengals.

Garrett was sacked late in the first half, tackling Joe Burrow for a loss of eight meters. This gave him 100.5 sacks for his career, which puts him tied for No. 60 on NFL all-time list. He now has 12 for the season.

Sacking Burrow to reach the mark seemed fitting, with Garrett getting to the Bengals’ QB nine times in the eight games they played against each other. This is Garrett’s most sacks against a quarterback and against a team in his NFL career.

Garrett becomes the first player in league history to reach 100 sacks before age 29. He will be 29 next week. With this sack, he also tied Bruce Smith and Lawrence Taylor for fourth-fastest players to reach 100 sacks, reaching that number in 115 games played. (Smith is the NFL’s all-time sack leader with 200, while Taylor ranks 9th with 142.)

Only Reggie White (96), TJ Watt (109) and DeMarcus Ware (113) have reached the mark in fewer games.

Garrett’s firing also comes days after he told reporters the Browns needed to demonstrate that they have a plan to win for him to consider finishing his career in Cleveland.

“First of all, I want to win and I want the Browns to be able to put me and us in a position to win,” Garrett told reporters. “I’m not trying to rebuild. I’m trying to win right now. And I want that to be evident once the season is over and we have these discussions. »

Garrett signed for two more seasons with the Browns. But the team went from 53 to 76 in seven years since Cleveland drafted him No. 1 overall of Texas A&Mincluding the 3–12 record this season after the Week 16 loss.

“I want to stay loyal to a team that showed loyalty and trust in me by drafting me, but we have to do, at the end of the day, what’s best for us,” Garrett added.

After Sunday’s game, Garrett has 12 sacks, 41 total tackles and 16 tackles for loss this season.
