Dr. Teresa Beam was appointed dean of the Pott College of Science, Engineering and Education at the University of South Indiana, from July 14.
As dean of the Pott College, Beam will be provost and will exercise major responsibilities for leadership and college management, its programs, finances and people.
“Dr. Beam offers both the depth and extent of the leadership experience,” said Shelly Blunt, provost. “It is dynamic and innovative with a proven capacity to work in collaboration between the departments to advance institutional objectives.”
Beam was recently dean of the School of Science, engineering and technology at St. Mary University in San Antonio, Texas. Before joining St. Mary University, she held several important management positions, including the dean partner of academic programs and the president of pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacogenomics at the University of Manchester in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was also a professor and president of the biological sciences at the University of Saint Francis, also in Fort Wayne, where she is now professor Emerita.
His career is marked by the development of undergraduate programs, undergraduate diploma and online diploma in STEM and health fields, emphasizing genomic sciences and precision health initiatives.
Beam obtained his doctorate in biology from the University of Notre Dame and has almost 30 years of experience in higher education, encompassing education, research, leadership of faculty and administration at the executive level.
His research includes the genetic engineering of the Piggybac transposable element, which led to an American patent, several publications and license agreements. She has received numerous teaching prizes and subsidies from organizations such as the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Energy. His educational philosophy emphasizes project learning and interdisciplinary commitment of students. During his career, Beam focused on providing STEM engagement experiences for young people, emphasizing those of communities where opportunities are limited.
