The British Columbia Public Power Service wishes to strengthen the province’s electricity production capacity in order to meet the growing demand in the province of residents and industries.
Basoad’s capacity refers to constant and stable sources of electricity, the Minister of Energy Adrian Dix announcing BC Hydro’s Request for an expression of interest to companies to provide geothermal or hydroelectric projects to extend long -term energy capacity and meet cutting -edge demand.

BC Hydro has also launched a second request, seeking partners who can provide “technologies ready for the market” to stimulate the conservation of electricity in the province’s houses and buildings.
Ten claims that the two requests aim to match the growth potential of British Columbia with a stable and affordable power supply.

BC Hydro treated a long -term drought which forced the province to import electricity during the last financial year.

The Crown public service indicates that 13,600 hours of Gigawatt power were imported in 2024 – approximately 22% of the power of British Columbia – but that the province has been a net electricity exporter for eight of the past 15 years.
Last year, the public service published a call for electricity from renewable sources, later selecting nine wind turbines and a solar project – but these are distinct from basic projects because they rely on what BC Hydro calls “uncontrollable conditions”.
