If you live in Avon and the police show up at your door, don’t worry.
You could be one of more than 70 people, like Avon resident Michele Kosboth, where Avon police officers had to deliver Amazon packages to people’s doors after receiving a call that they were in a dumpster.
“It completely baffled us,” Kosboth said.
A local Avon business found several Amazon packages in its dumpster Friday, according to Avon police.
Around 2:45 p.m., police were notified by the business and dispatched officers to the scene.
When officers arrived, they found approximately 75 opened and unopened packages in the dumpster. Police said all packages had a delivery address in the town of Avon.
Avon police said during the call they were contacted by the North Ridgeville Police Department. The NRPD said it dealt with a similar situation Thursday with one of its businesses near the Avon border. They were investigating who threw the packages and why.
The department says Avon officers and community service workers were able to deliver the packages they collected to their intended destinations. They learned that all packages had been marked as delivered on Thursday, January 16.
Early Thursday afternoon, Michele Kosboth said she received an alert that her and her mother’s Amazon packages had been delivered.
But when she went to check, she said she didn’t find anything, so she reported the problem to Amazon, who told her to give it some time.
“We waited until today (Friday), and I was actually on Zoom for work when I heard the doorbell and all that, and the police came first with the package from my mother, saying about 80 packages were found in a dumpster,” Kosboth said. “I’m sure the police reported it to Amazon and had that conversation, but it totally surprised me.
Avon police say they are investigating the circumstances that led to the packages being dumped and are trying to work with Amazon to identify the driver who marked them as delivered.
“They could be spending their time doing other things, but I appreciate that they contacted everyone and told us what happened and brought our stuff,” Kosboth said.
As the investigation continues, Kosboth said she wants Amazon to take this incident seriously.
“I worry about people getting their prescriptions through Amazon and things like that now. That’s going to happen more with things that are maybe more sensitive and more expensive, so I would really like Amazon to figure out some things,” Kosboth said.
