SWAC Commissioner Cup
By Kenneth Mullinax / Asu
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) awarded two of its three best All-Sports prices in the Alabama State University athletics department for the exceptional program performance during the 2024-2025 season.
The ASU won the “Cut of Commissioner James Frank de Swac” and the “Sadie Magee / Barbara Jacket Award” for the third consecutive year. The Hornets barely failed to win all Swac awards with a margin of a little more than three points, in second place for the “CD Henry Award” by Swac.
Dr. Jason Cable, vice-president and director of ASU Athletics (AD), shared that he could not be more proud of the ASU achievements.
“We are delighted that the university wins two of the three Swac All-Sports Awards for the 2024-2025 season,” said Dr. Cable. “Good sports programs are focused on athletes, coach and assisted by administration.”
Reward criteria
All-sport prices are determined by the way in which individual teams end in sports sponsored by the League. The programs receive a punctual value and, at the end of the season, the schools with the highest points win the All-Sports prices.
The ASU has won the cup of the Swac nine commissioner of the past 12 years. This season, Hornets teams have exceeded other programs, winning cross-country league titles, female athletics, male basketball (tournament), female golf course, male tennis (regular season / tournament) and female tennis (regular season).
Asu Athletics has won the Sadie Magee / Barbara Jacket prize for the last three consecutive years and for the 10th time in the past 11 years.
Work together
Cable explains that you need many people working together to reach this level of success.
“I am extremely proud of Alabama State University students, coaches and all those involved in carrying out this type of victory,” said Dr. Cable. “I also want everyone to know that leadership and encouragement we receive from the president of the ASU, Dr (Quinton T.) Ross, allow us to do so well and make history again and again.”
