Memoirs: a past musical look-step-future
Sunday, March 16, 3 p.m., Jesuit high school, 9000 Swaverton Hillsdale Hwy., Adults $ 15, senior / veteran $ 10, students under 12, $ 4,30 family, tickets available online on the Beaverton Community Band website or at the door.
Beaverton Community Band proudly presents an unforgettable musical journey where each piece tells its own story. Here are some protruding points of our program: Seventeen Comes Sunday: this English folk song, also entitled “AS I Boved Out”, was organized by Percy Grainger. You can recognize the melody of the first movement of the Folk Folk Song of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Light cavalry Overture: The opening of Franz Von Suppé is an energetic prelude to its light cavalry of the operetta. Although the operetta is soothed in the dark, the opening remains a basic food in the orchestras in the world. Its living theme has been largely quoted in various media. Mannin Veen: Haydn Wood’s symphonic work relies on the folk tunes of Manx, reflecting his experiences on the island of Man. The composition mixes Celtic melodies, often with the main clarinet. It captures the essence of the rich cultural heritage of the island. Of Wizards and Dragons: Inspired by Patricia C. Wrede’s the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, this piece mixes drama, humor and romance. He uses musical patterns to represent characters and scenes from history. This version of wind band is a combination of transcription, orchestration and new composition. Sanctuary of The Fallen: Composed in response to the events of kyiv in 2014, this play includes Ukrainian folk music. The Sanctuary of Falls is a powerful and introspective work, ending with a moving choral section. It symbolizes both national pride and mourning for the falls, while it relies on the old Ukrainian folk song Plyve Kacha, as well as the national anthem.
