The Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas has a very busy April planned with live music, “The Color Purple”, Yoga and other planned programs.
Live @ 5: Uapb Jazz together – April 4
UAPB Jazz Ensemble occurs during the live concert in April from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. to April 4 at the Arts & Science Center, 701 S. Main St.
The jazz ensemble is the University of Arkansas at the first jazz group of Pine Bluff which performs styles, notably Swing, Contemporary, Funk, Progressive and the Standards. This set turns locally and at the national level, according to a press release.
Live @ 5 is presented by MK distributors. Additional support is provided by Simmons Bank. Entrance is $ 10 for artx3 members and university students and $ 15 for non-members. Free beer, wine and non -alcoholic drinks are included. The event is mainly for the 21 years and over. The bracelets will be provided to those under the age of 21. Production: “The Color Purple” – April 9-13
The Artx3 campus will present “The Color Purple” from April 9 to 13 at Catherine M. Bellamy Theater in the Arts & Science Center. Production is in partnership with John McLinn Ross players at UAPB.
“‘The Color Purple” gives life to the unforgettable journey of Celie, a young black woman at the beginning of the 20th century of the South American. With a moving partition that mixes the Gospel, Jazz and Blues, this musical adaptation captures the transformation of Celie of a life of difficulties and abuse to one of empowerment and self-discourse, “according to a synopsy.
The production is led by Taijee Bunch and codirigated by Michelle Young-hobbs. The musical direction is from Laleata May, and the choreography is Daija Black.
The performances take place at 7 p.m. at April 9 to 12; 2 p.m. on April 12; and 3 p.m. on April 13. Tickets are $ 15, plus costs. Buy tickets on ArtX3.org/all-events/the-color-purple, by calling (870) 536-3375 or in person before the show. The show is suitable for the 13th and over.

Ms. Madkin literacy class – April 12 (free)
Children aged 3 to 6 are invited during Mme Madkin literacy: come and read, sing, dance and play with me! From noon to 1 p.m. April 12 at the Arts & Science Center.
Melanie Madkin of Ms. Madkin’s literacy program aims to promote a love of the world of literacy in a calm and stimulating environment with this monthly event.

Yoga in the loft: Spring Into Yoga – April 19
The ArtX3 campus will host yoga in the loft: Spring to Yoga from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 19 at L’Artspace on Main, 623 S. Main St.
Instructor Florence Love “Floessence” will guide participants in mild stretching, conscious breathing and soothing meditation techniques to cultivate balance, flexibility and mental clarity.

Delta Upcycle Challenge Project Showcase – April 22
The ArtX3 campus will host the Delta Upcycle Challenge Project window at 11 a.m. on April 22 at the Arts & Science Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The objective of the Delta Upcycle Challenge is to encourage young generation to create innovative solutions to reduce waste going in landfills or be strewn and promote a cleaner environment through an artistic lens. It is open to students from 3rd to 12th year.
The Défi finalists are invited to present their creations during the event, which culminates in a prize ceremony.

Auditions: “Memphis” – April 26 to 27
The Artx3 campus will welcome auditions for “Memphis” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 26 and from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 27 at Catherine M. Bellamy Theater in the Arts & Science Center.
Singers, dancers and passionate actors are sought to join this high -energy program, according to the press release.
“‘Memphis’ is an award -winning musical of Tony inspired by the real events, which takes place in the 1950s underground dance clubs of Memphis, tenn. He follows a DJ of daring white radio and a talented black club singer, both who manage for the Stardom. Together, according to the release.
Taijee Bunch directs, with a musical direction of La’Leata May and the choreography of Miles Meckling. The production is sponsored by Simmons Bank.
