Arlington Ridshare drivers face $ 500 fines so as not to use specific areas in the entertainment district

Carpooling pilots that do not comply with the collection and deposit rules in the Arlington entertainment district could be affected with a fine of $ 500.

The Arlington Municipal Council approved the fines on Tuesday in a series of changes intended to discourage the city’s rules on the place where carpooling can and cannot go. The council approved the fines unanimously as part of the consent agenda. The member of the Council Andrew Piel, which represents District 4, was not present.

The city updated carpooling areas in December, updating street names and adding prohibited areas for the first time since the construction of the Globe life. Police told Kera News in a declaration sent by email that the objective was to protect people, circulate traffic and make trips to the smoother region.

“Each time we organize a Cowboys game, a game of Rangers or another major event, one of our main objectives is to obtain the thousands of visitors who attend these events in and outside the entertainment district also safe and effectively,” the police wrote in the press release.

Having rules that prohibit drivers from stopping on the road to deposit or load passengers means that fewer people are released in dangerous and less chances than a stop car disturbing traffic, police said.

The new fines will give the police a way to apply these rules. Drivers who violate the collection and deposit rules could be cited with the fine of $ 500.

The stages of the entertainment district, however, have areas dedicated to the collection and the fall of carpooling. Uber, Lyft, via and Other carpooling services can stop at Lot C For Globe Life Field Events and Lot 15 for travel to and from the AT&T stadium.

“After events, we often have traffic control measures in place such as track closures and one -way roads to help facilitate the massive exit of fans from the entertainment district,” police told Kera. “Consequently, a carpooling driver may not be able to navigate to the place where his rider is if this rider is at an unintegrated location around the stages.”

This can be confusing and cause delays for carpooling drivers and frustrating for passengers, police said. Having the collection and deposit in the designated areas also allows authorities to keep an eye on things more easily, to increase security in the region.

Restrictions on carpooling locations are not new or rare. The cities of Dallas-Fort Worth have adopted similar rules in areas with high traffic in recent years, such as rules on cases where carpooling drivers can stop in the 7th entertainment district of Fort Worth.
