Will the double blow to suppress immigrants and the funding of research will weaken the United States as a research center?
By reducing immigration and funding scientific research, the United States slowly loses its position as world leader in research and development, maintains Holden Thorp, editor-in-chief of Science Journal and former chancellor of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Thorp has told Steve Clemons to the host that the US government had made a concerted effort in the past 80 years to finance scientific research, but with the changes inaugurated by the administration of President Donald Trump, Thorp predicts that the results will be “bad for science in general, as well as for the American role in innovation”.
