The head of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority has ordered an investigation into allegations that the police officer detained for rape and sexual abuse of his family members was living a lavish lifestyle far beyond his financial means.
The 45-year-old officer, who served in parliamentary security, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
On orders from Charalambos Vourliotis, investigators will now look into whether the police officer enriched himself through illicit means, after reports suggested he led a lavish lifestyle and owned luxury watches and an expensive car.
