At this point in the season, it certainly wouldn’t be too early to start thinking about possible improvements to the Winnipeg Jets list.
As they continue to lead the Central Division and battle for first place in the overall league standings, it’s actually prudent to forecast possible improvements for a team and organization that undoubtedly feels it has a chance to win and play until June.
And if for consecutive seasons the second-line center position is an area for improvement, we should all watch with interest to see what happens between now and the end of the game. NHL The trade deadline is March 7 for Jets management to fill the void, much like they did last year when they acquired Sean Monahan from Montreal.

But what the last two games have shown us is that the search for improvement at the 2C position may not need to be taken beyond the walls of the Winnipeg locker room. Literally, the Jets may have already found it in captain Adam Lowry.
In their last two wins against Colorado and Vancouver, Lowry’s progression up the depth chart to play with Nikolaj Ehlers and Alex Iafallo has been remarkable, resulting in a line that can score while also being difficult to score .
Even Jets head coach Scott Arniel admitted that the look and makeup of this trio made him think and like what he saw.
Now, if Lowry is the Jets’ answer to upgrading their second-line center spot, that would make the task of finding a veteran, experienced third-line center to replace him that much easier with a market likely full of those types of player and ultimately cheaper in terms of parting with assets or draft picks to get him.
So no, it’s not too early to start exploring possible upgrades to the Jets’ roster, but in terms of improving the team’s center spot on the second line, the search may already be over before you really start.
