Amy Gleason is the acting administrator of the US Doge Service, the agency that houses the temporary Government Department of EffectivenessA White House official told CNN on Tuesday.
The announcement, after weeks of questions on Elon Muskthe official role and Authority on DOGEreveals the technical leader in the initiative focused on the muscles responsible for reconfigure the federal government.
Gleason has health care training and previously worked at US Digital Service, an office created by President Barack Obama and, more recently, appointed after Doge. His position with Doge was reported for the first time by the Washington examiner.
She also worked to the president Donald TrumpThe first mandate, in particular by being placed in the data team of the working group of the White House Coronavirus because of its technological history. This team was led by Dr. Deborah Birx.
Despite its full transparency, the White House refused or was unable to identify the Doge administrator, including during the Tuesday press briefing. While Musk was the public face of the initiative and continues to issue social media directives to government employees, the White House argued that its status is one of an employee of the special government, and not a full -time worker.
“Thus, the president instructed Elon Musk to supervise the DOGE effort,” said press secretary Karoline Leavitt earlier Tuesday when he was asked directly who administered the initiative. “There are career officials and there are politicians who help lead Doges on a daily basis.”
The lawyers of the Ministry of Justice were grilled during an appearance before the court on Monday on whom was the administrator, but none could say either.
“Who is involved? Who is in charge? Who gives them a direction? Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly asked government lawyers at the hearing, who examined DOGE access to data systems sensitive to the Treasury Department.
The judges, including Kollar-Kotelly, increased the lack of clarity around the Doge structure as hampering their ability to decide on the emergency disputes that grasp them.
She and others have raised possible constitutional problems, depending on the chain of command in Doge and which is at the origin of radical decisions which have the operations of the federal government upset in recent weeks.
The head of the White House has not said for how long Gleason was the acting administrator.
