You’re probably looking at some sort of screen as you read this story. And that’s the problem, according to Mollie Tavel Kaback, owner of Alternate View, the new high-end eye experience that will open the week of Dec. 16 in Carmel.
“In today’s digital environment, adults spend at least eight hours a day staring at a screen, which causes us to reduce our blinks and leads to dry eyes,” Kaback said.
The problem has become such that every client at Alternate View, in the new Wren building in downtown Carmel, will be tested for dry eye as part of the company’s comprehensive eye care services.
Kaback considers Alternate View to be nothing short of a paradigm shift in eye care services.
“Alternate View was designed to take a different approach, a lifestyle approach, and to reposition eye care as not just a medical experience, but also a lifestyle and self-care experience,” said Kaback .
She certainly has the professional experience and lineage to understand the market. Her grandfather, Dr. David Tavel, started his eponymous eye care business in downtown Indianapolis in 1940. The second generation of the family, Mollie’s father, Dr. Larry Tavel, and her uncle, Dr. Alan Tavel, built on this foundation. Mollie, 36, worked at the company for five years, focusing on community partnerships and industry relations before coming up with the Alternate View concept.
The other two pillars of Alternate View’s offering, in addition to dry eye care, are comprehensive eye exams and “facial-adjacent” treatments. Microneedling, lash cleaning and non-surgical eyelid lift services will also be available. There will be eight employees at Alternate View as well as an optometrist on site each day.
The Wren is a six-story mixed-use building measuring approximately 161,000 square feet. It’s just east of the Carmichael Hotel, along Veteran’s Way.
Appointments are recommended for full styling services.
