The union representing the teachers of Alberta says that the members voted 95% in favor of strike action and that they could strike the strikes over the next four months.

The president of the Association of Teachers of Alberta, Jason Schilling, said that the teachers sent a message that they are united and will no longer support a under-funded public education system.

The Minister of Finance, Nate Horner, said that the recommendation of a mediator rejected by teachers included the same salary increase of 12% over four years which has already been accepted by other unions.
