As temperatures drop, Alberta RCMP launch new operation to stop the theft of idling vehicles during the winter months.
Operation Cold Start will see the Alberta RCMP partner with other police services across the province, including the Calgary and Lethbridge police services.
The initiative will run Monday through Friday and will focus on preventing crimes of opportunity.

Police will check idling vehicles left unattended to ensure they are properly secured.
RCMP say that while warming up their vehicle before a trip may be convenient for motorists, it is also convenient for thieves.
Police say idling vehicle theft not only increases the cost of insurance for all drivers, but stolen vehicles are often used to commit other crimes.
