The Alabama State Information Technologies Office reported on Monday morning an “important security violation” which affected the systems through the State, a problem discovered on Friday evening.

The ILO said that some user names and passwords of state employees had been compromised.

Nothing indicated that personal and identifiable information from the Alabamian has been recovered, said the ILO.

“The information technology office is currently responding to a cybersecurity event that affects certain state systems,” said the ILO.

“In alignment on best practices, immediate measures have been taken to contain the situation while working with a leading third -plan cybersecurity company to investigate, secure and restore impacted services.”

The ILO also said:

“The event was detected for the first time on Friday evening, and the teams worked 24 hours a day to identify and alleviate all the impacts.

“The source of the cybersecurity event is under investigation, but all state employees are recalled to be careful for potentially malicious emails.

“Surveys are currently underway to identify the entity responsible for the cybersecurity event.

“Surveys are also underway to understand the full scope of the event, and although some user names and passwords of state employees have been compromised, it is currently believed that no personally identifiable information from Alabamian has been recovered.”

This story will be updated when more information is available.
