Not that we condone this, but it’s one thing to grab a few bars of soap and a towel as you leave your lodging establishment when you’re traveling.
It’s another to cause massive damage and attempt to cheat the system.
So Airbnb is cracking down on some of its unruly customers with more technology and more surveillance.
The plan will kick off with anti-party technology this New Year’s Eve weekend.
“The problem you have is that when people rent your house saying it’s 3 or 4 people, and there are ultimately 30 or 40 people in the house, then you disturb the neighbors “, Cortney Newmans, currently owner of four Airbnbs in Metro Atlanta and Athens said WSBTV.com. “Especially if they know you do Airbnb and take care of your property,” Newmans added. “Then you throw a party, that will deter them from saying ‘hey, we want Airbnb in this neighborhood,’ especially if you have an HOA.”
The crackdown actually began four years ago, but since then the technology has only become more widespread and better.
Last year, Airbnb said the technology prevented “around 33,000 people from booking New Year’s Eve parties” nationwide.
“While problems are rare, we want to do our part to help reduce the risk of unauthorized and disruptive parties. Airbnb is committed to supporting hosts and the communities they live in, and we hope these defenses allow guests, hosts and neighbors to celebrate the holidays with more peace of mind,” said Tara Bunch, Manager global operations at Airbnb.
Airbnb released the addendum to its contract and policies earlier this year.
